Automation Maintenance Technician

Our Renewable Energy Business Unit currently has an opening for a permanent Automation Maintenance Technician. The role will be based at Edenderry Power Plant and will report to the Maintenance Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating and maintaining assets managed by small core teams. These teams consist of several Maintenance Technicians who work under the direction and leadership of a Maintenance Engineer. Additionally, Automation Technicians, reporting to the Automation Engineer, will be expected to take responsibility for achieving challenging targets across maintenance, engineering, commercial, safety, environmental, quality, and personal development areas.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Ensure maintenance plans and targets for the team are achieved safely, economically and within the environmental limits of the Generating Plants. To carry out PM/other works and report to the Maintenance Management System and keep record of all other necessary quality documentation;
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on the control and instrumentation systems for all assets; calibrations of process instruments which includes pH measurement and other analytical instruments, pressure, flow, level, and temperature as scheduled by the maintenance management system;
  • Nominated person for local support of IT infrastructure including office network, data historian development, ongoing single electricity market system maintenance. Implementation of Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM) software systems enabling trading of generating assets in new market;
  • Work alone and alongside other teams to provide high quality maintenance resource geared to achieving high plant availability. Respond to operations request to check out faults on instrument and controls. Carry out preventative maintenance on stack emission monitoring equipment and ensure the monitoring system is working correctly;
  • Install new instruments as required and carry out modifications to Distributed Control System or other plant control SCADA systems as required. Carry out modification to PLC controllers as necessary in response to changes to plant & equipment or operating philosophy. Review and order spare parts as required;
  • Assist with contractors to commission new projects. Contact vendors or control equipment suppliers to assist with problems with plant automation. Work alongside automation and instrumentation contractors, and as necessary, manage their activities on site;
  • All employees are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring Health and Safety, and Welfare of co-employees and members of the public using the premises;
  • Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives;

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Automation Technicians should possess appropriate technical qualifications (B.Tech or equivalent), including a recognised apprenticeship;
  • At least 5 years of experience in maintaining heavy process industries or power plants;
  • Excellent IT skills, with the ability to think logically and solve problems from first principles;
